I have suffered for some time with a recurring pain in my lower back. I always thought it was related to my posture; the way I say on my chair at work, but there were times when it was really painful and meant that I was really restricted in what I could do when I was not at work. A couple of times I was not even able to make it out of bed. I was pretty miserable, I can tell you.

That was all in the past now, of course, and the reason for that is that I found a really great heating pad that was soft, flexible and one that unlike many other heating pads on the market these days could easily be placed nice and close to the painful area, and best of all it had neat Velcro straps that meant it was easy to make sure that the heating part of the pad was nice and tightly in place. Since using this wonderful pad I have found that I no longer suffer from anywhere near the same degree of discomfort and my everyday life has pretty much returned to normal. I haven’t even had to do anything to my sitting posture at work although I am conscious that this may be something I have to address in the future.

The Sunbeam Flexible Heating Pad – Top Quality – Great Price

I bet you are wanting to know what the particular heating pad that helped me was. Well, it was actually a very popular model. Sunbeam heating pads are some of the bestselling heating pads on the market and I have heard nothing but good things about them, whoever is telling me. But this particular heating pad was called the Sunbeam Flexible Heating Pad. It has 5 heat settings, which I really liked as it meant I was able to raise the temperature bit by bit until it was particularly comfortable for me. It also has an auto-shut off feature after 2 hours which I actually thought was really important as it meant that there was no real danger from me falling asleep and risking a fire with the heating pad being left on too long.

But perhaps the best thing of all about this heating pad was the price I paid for it. I did quite a bit of shopping around and I believe that the price I got for the Sunbeam Flexible Heating Pad was the best on the market by some distance. You can find where I purchased my heating pad by clicking here!

Click Here to buy a Sunbeam Health at Home 756-500 Standard Heating Pad now!

Those unfortunate enough to suffer from pain in their joints due to arthritis, particularly in their hands and fingers can use a heating pad such as this for relief. It has also been used for back pain, sore knees and other stiff or achy body parts.

The controller for the Sunbeam Health at Home 756-500 Standard Heating Pad has been redesigned to be easier to use for painful hands. It is large, the button slides up and down easily and a bright LED light shows that the product is switched on.

If the heating pad gets dirty, don’t fret. The light blue cover is easily removed and is machine washable. At the price, it is obviously synthetic and not made from fine Egyptian cotton.

There are three heat settings, ranging from low to high. Other products offer a host of fancy features such as automatic timers, more sensitive heat settings and so on but those looking for something simple that does what it is supposed to, will opt for this one. It heats up quickly and stays hot.

In fact, the feature most remarked on is the fact that the pad maintains a constant heat with no fluctuations or hot spots, thanks to the ‘Ultra Heat Technology’. Set it to the desired, comfortable heat and warm those cranky parts up.

It is an electrical heating product, so please do not leave it switched on and unattended. As mentioned, it does not shut off automatically, so if the memory is fading, opt for a more expensive model.

The product is not intended for use with animals or babies. One customer bought the product to make yogurt. I don’t think the manufacturer had this in mind either…

Bear in mind that as with any electrical product, it is wise to keep your receipt in case you need to make use of the warranty.

The heating pad is rectangular and is measures 12 x 15 inches in size.

Sunbeam Health at Home 756-500 Standard Heating Pad is only available for shipping in the US.

Relief from muscular or joint pain is worth any price. Anyone with back or neck pain will tell you as much. Fortunately, it doesn’t have to cost you an arm and a leg. Moist heating pads as opposed to the regular variety are so named for obvious reasons.

Electrically operated moist heating pads are safe to use, but I prefer not plugging anything that gets wet into the wall socket if there is an easy alternative. The SoftHeat Moist Heating Pad is just that. A short stint in the microwave of around 90 seconds or so is enough to get this lifesaver toasty. Amazingly, it will continue to deliver moist heat for over half an hour. You may have seen some physicians using this kind of product. The magic comes from something called Microbead Technology. I can’t tell you what that means, other than it works really well. Unlike the plug in variety, there are no sponges to wet or water of any kind involved. The beads do it all by themselves. Moist heating pads – with no wires, no plugs and no water. Sounds like a winner to me.

Another huge plus is that it can be placed in the freezer and used as a cooling pack also. Those Microbeads really are quite fantastic.

The biggest advantage in my mind with these moist heating pads is that once they are removed from the microwave, they don’t get any hotter. Those seeking deep penetrating relief are likely to be irritated rather than consoled by something getting too hot or too cold or worse yet, something with hotspots. There are good quality electrical options available, but the SoftHeat Moist Heating Pad certainly does the trick with none of these disadvantages.

There is no need for heat control switches, uncomfortable cables and wires or costly safety precautions like auto power off devices. Safe to fall asleep with, this product is not going to burst into flames.

I am yet to hear a complaint about this type of moist heating pad.

The dimensions are 5.2 x 3.1 x 10.8 inches. It is heavier than the electrical variety at 11.6 pounds because of those wonderful Microbeads.

Until recently I would not have been able to tell you what heating pads are. I have been to various doctors, physiotherapists and other care givers and none of them gave me enough care, so to speak, to suggest heating pads.

So what exactly are these things? Anybody suffering from muscular tension, stiff joints whether from arthritis or other maladies, stands to benefit. As the nomenclature suggests, heating pads are electrically operated, relatively thin, for lack of better word, pads, that when plugged in and switched on, get hot. In so doing, they combat inflammation and offer relief to those with the moans and groans described above. There is no magic, no vibrating and there are no micro, medium or macro waves involved. Heat brings relief is the basic paradigm.

The Conair HP15RB Moist King-Size Heating Pad with Automatic Off is a popular choice as far as these products is concerned. Unlike some competitive products, it has an auto off function as an extra safety feature. Those with achy joints tend to be senior citizens and are more prone to forget the thing on. It makes sense to have this benefit. Some do use heating pads while lying in bed, although it is not advised to sleep with it. Should you happen to fall asleep, it will click off after two hours.

What further differentiates this heating pad is that it can be used with an absorbent sponge, included in the purchase, to generate moist heat. The wet sponge is safe to use with the heat pad for added relief.

An additional bonus is that the cover is a decent quality cloth and machine washable.

The product also has a self adhesive belt, making it easier to fix around an achy arm or leg. The control is easy to use and has 3 heat settings. It measures 12 inches by 24 inches and weighs around 1.6 pounds.

The manufacturers, Conair, are confident of the quality of the product and issue a limited 5 year warranty. The Conair HP15RB Moist King-Size Heating Pad with Automatic Off is UL listed.

Heat pads for back pain relief are popular for the reasons stated above. The process is a simple one. The heat pads are normally made from cotton or similar natural material that is safe for use in the microwave. The wheat in the bag or pad, is placed, as you might have guessed by now, in the microwave. Heat it up to the desired temperature and you have portable pain relief for 30 – 45 minutes and because of the natural water retention, the heat pad provides moisture to the affected area for additional relief.

Migraines, ear ache, stomach pain – the list of ailments that can be treated with wheat heat pads is long.

The material covering the wheat tends to be fairly thick so as to shield the user from any hotspots or overheated wheat. Last thing you want is to add burns to your list of injuries.

There is obviously a limit on how big these items can be as they need to fit into an average sized microwave.

Some contain aromatherapy oils, which are activated when heated.

The major advantage to heat pads for back pain or other maladies, is that it is a drug free alternative. Those suffering from back pain or conditions stemming from arthritis seek natural solutions so as to avoid the side effects of long term medication.

No pain? Then combat the cold. Some use it as an alternative to an electric blanket when sleeping which is certainly safer and others use it to keep them warm in the office on a cold day. This is a far more economical alternative to heating an open plan office or a room with no doors.

Wheat heat pads are occasionally also used as cold packs. They can be placed in the freezer and then used pretty much in the same way as when hot, for pain relief.

Heating pads and heat therapy in general is used for things like pain, muscle strains, swelling and joint stiffness. Moist heating pads are often more effective than dry heating pads. The moist heat has more of an effect on soft tissue, muscle and joints. A moist heating pad will retain a constant temperature over the whole time you have it on while things like hot packs or wraps that you heat in the microwave will get cooler the longer you have them on.

Moist heating pads are best used to help loosen tight muscles and joints. They are very effective for arthritis suffers. Moist heating pads for back pain are also very effective. Most if not all of these type of heating pads require no water and get warm automatically when plugged in. They work by drawing in the humidity from the air and catching it in the packs flannel cover. The rise in temperature from within the pack makes the flannel covers moisture seep out and onto the affected area.

So just how does this moist heat help your pain? The heated areas have blood vessels dilate which cause perfusion (increased flow of oxygen and nutrients) to the tissue, which in turn relaxes muscles, relieves pain and helps the area to heal. Keep in mind though that most moist heating pads register up to 180 degrees. They can be dangerous and cause serious burns if left on too long or unattended.

Moist heat pad are convenient. They come in many sizes also so you can buy the proper size for the area of your body you are treating. Special flannel covers that retain moisture come with all of them. There are some available in a hand muff style, which is especially good for patients with arthritis of the hands. Make sure you choose a reputable manufacturer and make sure your moist heat pad comes with a cover that can be removed and washed.

As we have said the most common uses for moist heating pads are to relieve pain, be it arthritis, muscle strain etc. Some other uses for your moist heating pad are a little less common though. They are great for older people who suffer from chills, or even a younger one who likes the bedroom warmer than their partner does. A small heating pad placed in the bed (not on your body) and left in place makes for a very toasty sleeping experience.

Dermatologists often tell their patients with acne to use heat on their face so it will heal faster. Small moist heating pads can be applied when you are relaxing. Just do not forget that these pads get very hot so check your skin often your do not want a burn. Having said that, many prefer a moist heating pad over and electric heating pad, especially when using them in bed due to the perceived risk associated with falling asleep while using an electrical device.

So as you can see a good quality moist heating pad will last for years, help you relieve pain (in many areas and from many sources), reduce swelling and do a few other neat things you may not have thought of. They come in an assortment of sizes, are reasonably priced and are really worth the investment.

The electric heating pad is a great convenience to people who do not wish to bother with the mess and inconvenience of using a hot water bottle or a moist heating pad. There are many reasons that someone may wish to apply heat to areas of the body. Some of these reasons could be menstrual cramps, sore muscles, or even sleeping wrong and waking up with a cramp in the neck or back. Many physicians recommend use of heat applied to muscle injuries after the first 24 to 48 hours, instead of the use of ice.

Using electric heating pads is more convenient than other methods of applying heat because it does not have to be re-heated, or re-microwaved and can be applied for a desired time without having to change the water in a hot water bottle. The advantage of having a constant temperature is also better than having the temperature of other methods of applying heat to an area consistently cool down as time goes by. The ability to adjust the temperature is another advantage to using an electric heating pad, most models offer 3 or 4 different heating levels.

The cost of operating an electric heating pad is pennies a day. It is a low cost option for those who want control over the heat temperature and length of time the heat is maintained. It actually would cost more to continually reheat water on the stove top or re-microwave water or other heat application devices as directed by the manufacturer. The use of electric heating pads costs less to maintain as well. The purchase price is a bit higher than a hot water bottle or other available heat application methods, but an electric heating pad will last longer than a hot water bottle or other method, which must be replaced much sooner.

Electric heating pads can also be used anywhere there is electricity available, no microwave or stove top is necessary. Portability is another advantage to using electric heating pads, they can be easily tucked into a suitcase or bag of almost any type when traveling for business or pleasure.

Electric heat pads are available in almost any pharmacy or department store. There are models which are available for use with 110 current and there are models for 220 current, which can be purchased, depending on where the person wishes to use the electric heat pad.

There are some electric heating pads that will use moist heat as well as dry heat. These models make the electric heating pad even more versatile than just the use of dry heat. Many physicians recommend use of moist heat for many medical conditions in addition to traditional uses on muscle strain. Application of heat can be a very comforting method of pain relief, which does not require use of drugs or chemicals.

Children should never use electric heating pads without direct adult supervision. Adults who use an electric heating pad should never fall asleep with the setting on high or medium, this can result in burn injury to the skin in the area of the electric heating pad. Caution should be used whenever using heat of any kind on an injury.

Many patients may choose the cost and convenience of an electric heating pad over other available methods for heat application to injuries or other areas of the body, which heat can be a benefit. The long lasting electric heating pad may cost more for initial outlay, but with the savings to the consumer for use and replacement costs for the other methods available, an electric heating pad may be a more desirable option.

Using heat pads for back pain is one of the most popular remedies used these days. Heat treatment is recommended by most medical professionals as it benefits both the long term back pain sufferer and those in need of more immediate pain relief.

Heat Pads For Back Pain Relief

There are many different ways, most of them household remedies, of applying heat to your back, but probably the most effective and consistent method of heat treatment is using heating pads. Heating pads have the benefit of being able to apply the right temperature consistently across the affected area. Heating pads are also a good way to apply moist heat which sufferers will attest seems to penetrate further into the affected area than dry heat, with the effect of achieving greater pain relief. The heat applied penetrates the muscles and joints around the affected area, assisting relaxation and allowing the sufferer to stretch without pain and reduce stiffness.

Poor posture is probably the principal cause of back pain. Sitting in a poor positions, or having to spend long periods in a particular position can create the circumstances for back pain to be experienced. Whatever the cause back pain whether it is acute or chronic can be debilitating and prevent someone from leading any sort of active life.

Being able to treat the symptoms of back pain with something as simple as heating pads is actually a significant bonus and should not be overlooked, or neglected. Regular treatment with heating pads followed by simple stretching exercises may also be useful as a preventative measure and help the body avoid pain in the future.

There are many varieties of heating pads and some have different characteristics. Using heat pads for back pain is best if the heat is moist and the following products produce the most effective types of moist heat.

Heat Pads Are Very Good For Back Pain

Microwaveable heating pads

These heating pads are usually made from natural products, essentially corn, or wheat contained within a canvas bag. The bag is heated in the microwave and corn or wheat retains the heat for an extended period of time. These tend to be moist heating pads and are relatively small, light and easily positioned so that the heat can be applied directly to the affected area.

Electric heating pads

Electric heating pads do produce a moist heat effect. They do this by drawing moisture from the air and condensing it on the affected surface. Obviously electric heating pads are powered by household electricity and are therefore less portable than other types of heating pad.

Heat Pads For Back Pain Is An Established Therapy

Heat therapy has long been used as a method of treating pain, especially back pain. Heat pads for back pain have been the most effective method of applying heat. They are cheap, portable and easy to use and most households should keep a couple of heating pads just in case they are needed.

Heating Pads Definition

Heating pads are simple method of warming localized parts of your body to aid circulation, ease tension and alleviate pain.

The heating pad is usually a portable pad that is heated by an external source and then applied to a particular area of the body. The warmth is intended to dilate the blood vessels around the affected area, thus improving circulation. The improved circulation has the effect of increasing the oxygen flow which in turn aids muscle relaxation. The relaxation of muscular tension, together with the healing effect provided by the improved oxygen flow means that heating pads can actually give the user a sensation of pain relief in addition to the benefits of blood flow and tension relief.

Heating Pads – A Look At The Different Types

Heating pads can come in a number of different shapes and sizes, ranging from relatively complex electrical devices to the simple hot water bottle.

Electrical Heating Pads – these are the least portable types of heating pads and typically operate by using the household electric current. They work by heating a moist contact surface which in turn provides moist heat to the affected area. The important thing to be careful about with electrical heating pads is that they do not overheat as if they do so then they may well burn the affected area instead of providing treatment for the affected area.

Microwaveable Heating Pads – these products tend to be pads incorporating a substance which has the ability to absorb and retain a lot of heat. This heat is provided by placing the heating pad into the microwave for a period. The heating pad is then applied to the affected area and the heat dissipates gradually over an extended period, thus warming the affected area. Typical substances used to fill microwaveable heating pads would include:

wheat-bags which tend to be moist heating pads and may often include aromatic oils, herbs, such as lavender, and spices in order to create a soothing fragrance whilst in use.

ceramics, which provide a dry heat, but tend to retain their heat for longer and are not as much of a fire risk as the organically filled heating pads.

Chemical Heating Pads – chemical heating pads most often create a one time chemical reaction the by-product of which is heat. There are some chemical heating pads available that are reusable, but this is not the norm.

What Sort Of Pain Will Heating Pads Help Alleviate

Heating Pads are useful for alleviating painful symptoms

Clearly the sort of pain that heating pads will work best in alleviating are likely to be localized muscular and joint pains. Heating pads may also be used to provide a soothing effect in certain circumstances. So the sort of afflictions for which heating pads are likely to be useful include:

People who are suffering from a sports injury, such as a sprained ankle.

Those suffering from arthritis.

Athletes with joint stiffness.

People suffering from migraine headaches.

Anyone suffering from tension, say in the head or neck area.

Heating Pads Conclusion

Heating pads are used frequently by those suffering chronic muscular or joint pain or other bodily tension. They are a simple and effective treatment in many cases whilst at the same time providing real benefit, and very often successfully aiding recovery and alleviating pain. The types of heat they provide can range from dry heat to moist heat which gives the sensation of greater muscular penetration. They tend to be relatively inexpensive, practical and portable.
